Targeted Divestment Bill Status
May 11, 2007: Governor Kathleen Sebelius
signed the targeted Sudan divestment legislation (now HB 2457) into law today. Kansas has become the twelfth state to divest from the genocidal Sudanese government.
April 27, 2007: The Kansas House of Representatives voted 123-2 in favor of targeted Sudan legislation tonight, sending the bill to Governor Sebelius's desk. She is expected to sign it in the coming weeks.
March 14, 2007: The Kansas Senate unanimously voted to pass Senate Bill No. 335, targeted divestment from Sudan legislation, tonight. The bill will now move to the House, where no action has been taken on the companion targeted divestment legislation. Please

March 12, 2007: The Senate Ways and Means committee unanimously voted in favor of the divestment bill today. The bill will soon be voted on by the whole Senate and will then head to a House committee.
March 7, 2007: The Senate Ways and Means subcommittee on KPERS Budget recommended the bill favorably to the whole Ways and Means committee today. The committee will vote on the bill in the coming days.
March 6, 2007: Senate Bill No. 335 was heard by the Senate Ways and Means subcommittee on KPERS Budget this afternoon. The three senators on the subcommittee will vote on the bill tomorrow, and it will then be sent to the whole Ways and Means committee, the last step before a Senate floor vote.
Meanwhile, there is still no action in the House.
February 23, 2007: The Senate Ways and Means subcommittee on KPERS Budget will hear the targeted divestment bill on March 6. Representative Schwartz has no plans to schedule a hearing for the House bill.
February 8, 2007: Senate Bill No. 335 has been assigned to the Senate Ways and Means committee, which is chaired by
Senator Dwayne Umbarger. House Bill No. 2468 has been assigned to the House Appropriations committee, which is chaired by
Representative Sharon Schwartz.

David Haley introduced
Senate Bill No. 335, which will divest our state pension funds from Sudan if passed.
Also, companion legislation (House Bill No. 2468) was introduced by 14 members in the House of Representatives today.
